Gourds are the T
upper ware of the ancient world, and still actively used in African to make EVERYTHING, including music and water jugs. Gourds are cousin to a squash or water melon and can be grown on the ground or hung in a trellis. It’s amazing to see this globular thing full of water, and hanging at the end if a vine. I love the round shape, love painting on the round shape. It lends itself easily to Southwestern design and Native American themes. They have floated across the oceans of the world and there is thriving gourd craft in many countries, especially as drums. I read somewhere that gourds predate ceramics and basketry. Don’t quote on that, enjoy the gourds
